Alaskan villages depend on diesel fuel to power electric generators. High fuel costs have increased interest in wind power. Alaska has excellent wind resources in over 100 villages that currently rely on diesel generation. HOMER modeling helps...

Hello all I have used a form of Homer in my solar basics class as an introduction to solar modeling. We use the standard calculation methods for DGI and Bimodal systems which the students will use a lot in a solar career, but wi introduce HOMER for…

I am confused, the system drawn is a direct grid interactive, a standalone is by definition not connected to a "grid" system. It has no batteries therefore it is not a Bimodal system. If Homer gives you a very large system I wonder what system Homer…

HOMER Users are Creating a New Energy Future

If the world is going to transition to a sustainable energy future, then renewable energy must eventually supply more than a 20% share of the power sector. However, large utility companies are very frank about their lack of understanding of how to integrate solar and wind power at those higher levels. That is why they continue to propose large coal plants.

Utility systems can indeed have much higher shares of renewable power, as is demonstrated by HOMER users with smaller isolated utility syste… Continue

New Revelations about the Future of Oil

Everyone wants to know the future price of oil, but has the most authoritative source on the topic been politicized?

According to the Guardian newspaper, 2 senior officials from the International Energy Agency are claiming that the IEA is knowingly exaggerating the future availability of oil. See the full report at: http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2009/nov/09/peak-oil-international-energy-agenContinue

About blueEnergy

I am a volunteer working on the Caribbean coast of Nicargua for a American/French NGO. We have been working here for the last five years and are maturing nicley. We specialise in wind power, based on the designs of Hugh 'the God of Wind' Piggott and the gentlemen at otherpower.com. We currently have four turbines spinning in the communities and three on-site near our offices. We have recently finished building a 14' diameter turbine and are looking for funds to develop a 17' turbine and eventual… Continue

Report based on Homer to evaluate solar/wind/diesel hybrid for two remote Thai islands

Renewable Energy Options on Islands in the Andaman Sea: A feasibility study for hybrid renewable energy/diesel systems in two Tsunami impacted communities evaluates electrification options for two remote Thai islands in the Andaman Sea that have existing diesel generators and solar panels left over from a number of defunct solar home systems. (PDF, 1.3 MB) Study for the Tsunami Aid Watch Programme of the Heinrich B๖ll… Continue

The Clean Energy Innovator’s Dilemma

Are you one of the innovators that will disrupt the unsustainable energy industries and lead the clean energy revolution? The innovator’s dilemma is that established companies can’t develop the truly disruptive innovations that clean energy needs to transform the energy industry from the bottom up. I hope HOMER and this site empowers all of the innovators who are perfecting applications of clean energy starting with the smallest applications that have been neglected by the energy industries.

It… Continue
